Avox logo

Avox Systems (A-VOX Systems) has manufactured instruments to measure blood oxygen since 1976. Its oximeters and co-oximeters are used in cardiology (cath lab), intensive care, and emergency medicine. Oximeters and co-oximeters typically measure carboxyhemoglobin, methemoglobin, oxyhemoglobin, total hemoglobin, percent saturation, and oxygen content. British spellings are carboxyhaemoglobin, methaemoglobin, oxyhaemoglobin, total haemoglobin

AVOXimeter 1000E Cath-Lab Oximeter is the oximeter of choice in cardiac cath labs. In samples of whole blood, the AVOXimeter 1000E measures oxyhemoglobin, total oxyhemoglobin, and oxygen content&emdash;all in less than 10 seconds. Applications include diagnosing shunts such as atrial septal defects, ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus, etc. Fick Principle calculations of cardiac output, systemic blood flow, and pulmonary blood flow require oxygen content, not saturation. Waters Instruments’ Oxicom does not measure oxygen content.

Quick, Reliable Measurements
The AVOXimeter 1000E measures:

1. oxygen saturation (for diagnosing shunts)

2. oxygen content (for Fick Principle calculations)

3. total hemoglobin concentration

Ideal for adult and pediatric use.

Safe, Convenient, Disposable Cuvettes
No sample preparation.  Simply inject sample into cuvette, and insert cuvette into oximeter.  Results appear in less than 10 seconds.  Almost no maintenance required.

Disposable oximeter cuvettes eliminate the maintenance required by conventional oximeters and co-oximeters. Disposable cuvettes also make the AVOXimeter 1000E Cath-Lab Oximeter the fastest cardiac cath lab oximeter. The AVOXimeter 1000E measures oxyhemoglobin, total oxyhemoglobin, and oxygen content.

AVOXimeter 1000E Cath-Lab Oximeter is the only cardiac cath lab oximeter that performs hemodynamic calculations including oxygen consumption rate, cardiac output, systemic blood flow, pulmonary blood flow, systemic vascular resistance, pulmonary vascular resistance, etc. The Oxicom does not do calculations or have a serial output.

Data Management & Hemodynamic Calculations
Stores 100 samples in memory.
Each record can include time, date, patient number, and anatomical site, e.g. RA, PA, LV, etc.  Calculations include Fick cardiac output, estimated O2 uptake.  Interface to printer or computer.

Maximum Quality Control with Minimum Effort
Quick and easy optical QC reduces the need for costly,
time-consuming aqueous controls.  Proficiency testing material also available.

Quality-control materials are readily available for the AVOXimeter 1000E Cath-Lab Oximeter. Liquid controls and proficiency-testing materrials are not available for the Oxicom.

Advantages in Pediatric Cardiology
Small blood sample (50 µl)

No interference from bilirubin, hemolysis, carboxy-, met-, or fetal hemoglobin.  Label each sample with oximetry site.
